Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
