Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely nutritious and good for you. Some foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

If you would like to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
