How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at beating back depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
